At long last the intriguing mystery visual novel Root Letter has been given a release date for Europe and North America, along with a cinematic trailer which is all kinds of pretty.

The game will release on PS4 and Vita on the 28th October for Europe and the 1st November for North America.

Root Letter is essentially a visual novel – though it’s not clear how deep any interactive elements will run – which is a mystery adventure about a missing girl. The girl in question is our protagonist’s pen pal, and after 15 years of her disappearance he finds a letter she wrote to him that was never sent, and as such sets out to investigate.

The game is set in the Shimane prefecture of Japan – a beautiful mountainous coastal setting – where our protagonist will interrogate his old pen pal’s classmates to try and figure out what’s happened.

It looks like a very interesting and visually compelling experience, so personally I’m quite glad the release is soon coming. This is also the first game in the ‘Kadowkawa Game Mystery series’, so I assume we can expect more similar titles in the future.

Take a look at the trailer below, and hopefully we’ll have a review published here not too long after the game’s release.
