Recently mini retro consoles are very much the in thing, whether it’s the NES or SNES Classic Mini, a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, the recently announced NeoGeo Classic and the heavily rumoured N64 Classic Mini.  So it’s only matter of time for some of the other big companies to jump aboard this bandwagon, and why wouldn’t they?  They’re products in demand and in general, they tend to offer a well replicated retro experience that fans seemingly can’t get enough of.

One of those other big companies that seem to want a piece of this pie is none other than Sony.  When speaking to Mantan Web, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment; John Kodera has revealed that he and his colleagues have spoken about the possibility of producing a PlayStation Classic Console, here’s what he had to say:

Our company is always digging up past assets. I think there are various ways to do (a classic console). There have been discussions happening (within the company) on what kind of ways are there.

So while this is no confirmation that Sony will be producing such a console, at the very least we know that it has been discussed.  If the console did arrive, I image E3 2018 would be way too soon for an announcement, but you never know, we could get an announcement at the PlayStation Experience later this year perhaps.

While Sony wouldn’t be able to fit every PSOne game imaginable on to one mini console, let us know what PSOne classics you’d like to see included across our social media channels.
