Konami an IDW Games has announced that Metal Gear Solid is getting its very own tabletop board game next year.  Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game is a co-op game with miniature figures, which is based up the first PlayStation classic title.  Players will get the choice of playing as Solid Snake (let the arguments begin), Dr Hal “Otacon” Emmerich, Meryl Silverburgh and Gray Fox aka Cyborg Ninja.

Staying true to the series, players will have to utilise stealth to avoid detection, while taking on objective-based scenarios.  The board game is also said to have a sandbox approach, where players can complete missions in a variety of different ways and playthrough’s are said to “always play out differently.

IDW who are also known for their comic book productions, are also experienced in the tabletop gaming world and Jerry Bennington, IDW’s Publishing’s VP of New Product Development said this on their collaboration with Konami on the Metal Gear Solid: The Board GameHaving partnered with Konami in the past to adapt Metal Gear Solid into comics and produce all new stories in the Silent Hill universe, we are extremely excited to be partnering again to bring Metal Gear Solid to a new gaming medium: tabletop.

Emerson Matsuuchi, who will be the designer of the board game, added his enthusiasm to the project “I’m probably the biggest fan of Metal Gear Solid. Ever since playing the first Metal Gear Solid, it has forever altered the way I view games. The story it told was so memorable and the gameplay experience so rich that it has shaped my expectation of games as both a designer and gamer. So the opportunity to bring this masterpiece to the table has been an honour and dream come true.

While we have no confirmed date other then 2019 or price on the Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game, the game will be shown at E3 2019 through media booking sessions, and fans will be able to get hands-on at Origins Game Fair, Dice Tower Con, San Diego Comic Con and Gen Con, also next year.
