If there’s one thing I definitely wasn’t expecting to hear, particularly as an announcement for a Nintendo console, it is the making of a sequel to the marmite-like Deadly Premonition.

This sequel, entitled Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise follows FBI agent Aaliyah Davis who reopens an old case – one that conveniently crosses her path with the protagonist of the first game, Agent Francis York Morgan. Additionally, as the trailer suggests, this investigation crosses from the past and present, as we see York tackle a case as a younger man, and him ‘questioned’ in his later years.

For those that didn’t get to experience the clunky delights of the first game, it was a bizarre, winding story about a small rural town in America that experiences a horrific murder of one of its inhabitants. Francis York Morgan turns up to help solve the case, but he isn’t exactly stable himself and strange paranormal events occur – which conveniently only he seems to be able to see – and the case gets all the stranger.

It was heavily criticised for having terrible gameplay, poor visuals and generally being, tangibly speaking, low quality; however its characters, music and sense of humour (and style) injected it with a charm that few games could hope to achieve.

You can probably tell that I’m one of the people that loved the original game, but the critiques of the game were certainly valid, and objectively speaking one would hope that a lot of the ‘quirks’ of the first game will be ironed out in this one.

The one thing that does disappoint me is that this is just an announcement for the Nintendo Switch. Hopefully this will change, or at least later down the line the game will be available on all other platforms.

Hopefully we’ll get to know more about the actual game and its story soon, but as for now there’s a short trailer which you can watch below. The game is due to release sometime in 2020.
