At this point it feels like I should preface the name “System Shock 3” with “never releasing”, as news on the title goes back and forth and from good to bad with seemingly every update.

I suppose this particular development isn’t specifically bad, however it can’t help but bring doubts to one’s mind about the chances of the title if it’s had such a tortured development to lead to this point.

Announced in Tweets from OtherSide Entertainment, and following rumours of poor progress with development, Chinese Company Tencent has taken control of the title and “will be taking the System Shock franchise forward”.

In a further tweet, OtherSide positively states “As a smaller Indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own. We believe Tencent’s deep capabilities and expertise as a leading game company will bring the franchise to new heights”.

It’s a good thing for those waiting torturously that the development carries on, but when a real update on the actual game will come, who knows; and will it be anything comparable to what was being teased since 2015, only time will tell.

The potential for this takeover to affect the System Shock Remake is also apparent, though unclear what it ultimately entails.
