According to the voice-actor that plays Sam Fisher in the Italian version of Splinter Cell, a new game in the series was supposed to release this year, which he described as a “conclusive episode”, before plans for the release was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When speaking to Multiplayer.it, voice-actor Luca Ward revealed “There is this return of Splinter Cell that is supposed to be a conclusive episode, but I’m not sure about this part,” he said.  Ward added “They have not yet figured out whether to do it in 2021.  It was a going to release in 2020, and then COVID-19 happened, and several big projects in 2020 got delayed.”  But he stressed that he is “sure that Splinter Cell will return, this is a fact.

As with all rumours, I always say take them with a pinch of salt, but at least we can take comfort in knowing that Luca Ward is a very credible source.  It’s been seven years since a proper Splinter Cell game released, the last being Blacklist on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.  The only time Ubisoft has graced us with the presence of Sam Fisher is via cameo’s in the Ghost Recon series and the yet to be released mobile game, Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad.

So if a new Splinter Cell game does release anytime soon, I suspect it will be a next-gen title and please, for the English language version, bring back Michael Ironside as Sam Fisher!  What do you make of these rumours and when do you think a new game in the Splinter Cell series might release?  Let us know across our social media channels.
