Sega and Lego have announced that Sonic the Hedgehog is getting its very own brick building toy range.

The first Lego set to release for everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog is based upon the iconic Green Hill Zone.

The set was created by Sonic and Lego fan Viv Grannell, who created their own submission and Lego were so impressed that they turned the concept idea into an official set after it received 10,000 votes from Lego fans worldwide to be greenlit.

The set features Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr Robotnik’s “Death Egg Robot”, as well as various creatures, loops and scenery based upon Green Hill Zone.

After turning their vision into a reality, Viv Grannell said: “I’ve been invested in the world of Sonic for almost my entire life, and it’s such a perfect fit for the LEGO system that I spent about a year rallying support for it to happen.

Having 10,000 people back my design was overwhelming enough, even with friends and family behind me, but having it be selected for further development was the most exciting secret I have ever had to keep!” continued Grannell.

There is currently no release date or pricing for the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set, but Lego has announced that it will now go into the product development phase.

If I was going to take a guess, I’d say that the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone set should be out by Christmas this year.
