At the Pokemon Direct last week it was announced that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are being remade.

The remakes announced by The Pokemon Company will be called Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl.

Both games will be very faithful to the source material and will maintain the game’s aesthetic, albeit in a vibrant modern kinda way.  In my opinion, they both remind me of the Pokemon Let’s Go games.

As a tradition in the Pokemon series, both games will release simultaneously and each will feature legendary Pokemon that do not feature in the other.

In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Dialga is the Legendary, while Palkia is the Legendary for Shining Pearl.  However, both games will feature Chimchar, Piplup, and Turtwig as the starter Pokemon.

The sense of scale of the original games, towns, and routes has been carefully preserved,” said the Pokemon Company during the presentation.

To help the gameplay feel more modern, The Pokemon Company says that both games have been updated for “player-friendly conveniences” and they will feature “up-close and personal Pokemon battle scenes.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl will not be developed by Game Freak but will instead be handled by “I Love Computer Arts” (ILCA), the studio that worked on Pokemon Home and has helped to develop Yakuza 0 and Nier: Automata.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl will release for the Nintendo Switch late this year.
