DICE developer and design director Daniel Berlin has confirmed that Battlefield 2042 does not feature a single player campaign.

The news was confirmed during an interview with Eurogamer, and Berlin explained it’s so that the developers can focus purely on the multiplayer.

Belin explained: “If you look at the DNA of the studio, what we’ve been doing for so long, we just said you know what, we’re not going to have a traditional single-player campaign this time around, but we’re going to put all that emphasis and all those resources into building depth into the multiplayer. Because that is what we do best.

I know this news will gather a mixed reception. While I’m sure there will be many that play the Battlefield series for the multiplayer, there is also a lot that plays for the single player.

It remains to be seen how much of an impact this will make on the consumer’s decision to purchase the Battlefield 2042, but some will likely question the value of a game that costs £70 RRP for the base next-gen version.

The last-gen version does have an RRP of £60, and you can only get a next-gen upgrade if you buy the Gold Edition.

Battlefield 2042 will cater to up to 128 players on next-gen consoles and 64 players for last-gen. Whether the decision not to include the single player campaign will have the same impact as Black Ops 4 remains to be seen.
