The showrunner of the upcoming live-action Resident Evil series from Netflix has been confirmed as canon.

This means that despite the somewhat alternative synopsis, the new live-action show will be set in the same universe as the Resident Evil video game series. Unlike the Paul W. Anderson movies as well as Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City.

Just in case you need a recap, here’s the synopsis for the upcoming series:

In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems, and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

“Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past – about her sister, her father and herself – continue to haunt her.

Is this a good thing? It could be. That’s unless the series isn’t an easter cluster of “hey, do you remember this?” And of course, as well as it doesn’t screw with the video game lore.

The news was confirmed by Resident Evil showrunner Andrew Dabb, during an interview with TheGamer. Furthermore, Dabb also revealed that it will be explained how Albert Wesker survived a volcano in Resident Evil 5.

Additionally, for fans of Lady D (and who isn’t), Andrew Dabb has ruled out that Lady Dimitrescu to appear in the series. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that this is far from confirmation, it’s merely an acknowledgement at best during this time.

Village is part of our lore. If we want to put a giant vampire lady in Season 2, we can,” said Dabb. “I’m not saying we’re going to, but it’s an option.”

Last week, Netflix released the first two trailers for the live-action Resident Evil series. If you missed them, you can watch them both here. Are you looking forward to this new Resident Evil series from Netflix? Let us know across our social media channels.
