The release date for Dead Island 2 as well as the synopsis and screenshots have leaked.

Announced in 2014, Dead Island 2 was supposed to launch in 2015. Obviously, that never came to be and since that time, Dead Island 2 has been passed around multiple development studios.

 

The current studio, and the one that will finally be releasing Dead Island 2, is Nottingham, UK-based studio, Dambuster. It’s been heavily rumoured that this Deep Silver published title will finally launch late this year or perhaps early 2023.

However, according to a leaked Amazon UK listing, Dead Island 2 will release for PC, PlayStation and Xbox on February 3rd, 2022. It’s entirely possible that this release date might not be accurate, but hopefully, at the very least, it’s within the ballpark.

Much like the original Dead Island games developed by Techland, the sequel will have multiple characters to choose from. In fact, Dead Island 2 will have six playable characters, as well as a customary skill-tree to level up. Of course, the sequel will once again feature weapon crafting.

A “Day 1 Edition” of Dead Island 2 will also include the “Memories of Banoi Pack – Banoi War Club, Memories of Banoi Baseball Bat, Weapon Perk – balanced, Personal space skill card.”

In terms of the Dead Island 2 synopsis and gameplay details, the leaked Amazon listing states:

A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, California, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city is in quarantine, and the military has retreated. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the zombie inside. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering fellows who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of LA (and humanity), in the balance.

Obviously, it pretty much goes without saying that this Amazon listing accidentally leaked details ahead of any official re-announcement. That Amazon listing has since been removed from the website. It’s probably also safe to assume that the Dead Island 2 re-announcement might take place during Gamescom next week.

I played an alpha build of Dead Island 2 way back in 2014 and it’s been so long that I thought this game would never see the light of day. So, I’m happy that this game will finally get its big release in the coming months.
