Upon playing the Project Cars demo at EGX, I assumed that what I would be playing is a game that is perhaps closer resembling a full-on simulation, rather than an arcade type racer.  I was expecting myself to fly off each corner after not slowing down sufficiently at the bends, well to be fair, that happened a few times on my first go.  Once I had gotten use to the car that was used in the demo and how Project Cars played, what I found was a game that seemed to be easy to pick up and play, with a pinch of arcade appeal, but a more then healthy dose of simulator type difficultly.  If the term “easy to play, hard to master” ever summed up a game, it could very well be Project Cars.

In some ways, it almost felt like I was playing a more testing version of a new gen reincarnation of Project Gotham Racing, which for me is a very good thing indeed.  The gameplay was smooth and fluid, and what seemed to be challenging computer A.I on the race track.  Project Cars is pretty much billed up as a game for the racing fans and petrol heads alike and this was not only represented by the stunning visuals and intense gameplay, but also the various viewpoints that are available to you.  While I never got a chance to fiddle around with the tuning aspect of the game, having not one, but two driver seat viewpoints will surely please the hardcore racing gamer.

My time with the demo was very brief, but Project Cars looked and played as well as it looked in the gameplay trailers and certainly looks like it will live up to its own hype (which is something that not many games can boast).  It certainly left me with a very positive impression and wanting more, so no doubt I’ll be able to analyze this game in greater depth come release.

Project Cars will release November 21st for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the Wii U version arriving next year and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into the full version of the game.
