Insomnia April 2023 is a wrap and was a great time in my humble opinion and now it’s on to the next.

Insomnia is one of the UK’s premiere video game conventions with esports competitions, some of the nation’s popular content creators, gaming pods, tabletop, retro, merch stands, cosplay, meet and greet and so much more.

EGX was once hosted in London, before moving to NEC Birmingham and back to the nation’s capital. Thankfully, Insomnia has taken the Midlands mantle and if this year’s event is anything to go by, it will be here for years to come. Not only is Insomnia a fun and well-organised event, but with it being hosted in Birmingham, it’s also more accessible to events in London, in my experience.

There was so much on offer, but not too much that you won’t make the most out of a packed day. If you organise your day well, you should be able to see everything that Insomnia has to offer.

I must also add, as a disabled man, unlike some other conventions that I’ve attended, Insomnia was the easiest to manoeuvre. Stands were spaced out and so too were all the stands, merch stalls and so forth. Not once did I feel cramped and congested. Once more, there were also plenty of places to sit and rest, an issue that I’ve also encountered at other conventions. Oh, and free cups of Yorkshire Tea were being given out. Happy days!

For the first time in my life, I also paid for a meet and greet for some of my favourite Resident Evil voice actors and even the voice of Geralt of Rivia from The Wither series was there. The meet and greets were well organised, not to mention that the actors were an absolute joy. Sadly, I was not able to see them all, due to finances, however, I’m really hoping that they’ll return to Insomnia in the near future.

Speaking of which, Insomnia will be returning to NEC Birmingham once again later this year from 7 to 10 September. Tickets are expected to go on sale early next month in May. Additional details on the event will also be revealed at a later date.

Finally, if you’re looking for a fun event to geek out with a like-minded community, then I can wholeheartedly recommend checking out Insomnia this September.
