Since the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 for PlayStation 4, there was hope or some belief that it might be a timed exclusive. After all, FFVII Remake eventually made its way to PC, as well as later on the PS5.

Now the second part of the trilogy of remakes has been released with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PlayStation 5. Yet, there is still no sign of an Xbox release and it appears that dream might now be dead and buried or is it?

As reported by Push Square (via a paywalled article from The Washington Post), it was seemingly claimed that Sony had secured the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy to PlayStation. “Final Fantasy has always been one of the primary franchise pillars on PlayStation consoles,” said third-party boss Christian Svensson. “[Square Enix is] one of the best in the business at pushing beyond their fans’ lofty expectations and showing off what can be done with PlayStation hardware.”

However, an update from the report now suggests that the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy might not have been signed exclusively to PlayStation. Like seriously, someone makes their minds up! The author of the original article at The Washington Post has now updated the article to say that it’s not been confirmed that Sony has an exclusive deal.

It seems there’s a lot of reading between the lines from the initial article to the update. It would be surprising if the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is a console exclusive on PlayStation, but is there still a slight chance it will make it onto Xbox? Only time will tell, just don’t get your hopes up.
