Mario Strikers: Battle League Football was announced at the Nintendo Direct event last night. Rejoice!

The Mario Strikers series first began on the Nintendo GameCube in 2005, before arriving on the Wii in 2007. However, this series would skip the Wii U entirely, resulting in 15 long years for its triumphant return.

Alas, the triumphant comeback has been made as Mario Strikers has made its long-awaited return. If you’re familiar with this series, then you’ll know this is not a serious football game whatsoever. It’s all about the over-the-top action, power-ups and vibrant colours and cast of Nintendo characters.

Playable locally or online with up to eight players (four on each team), you can play individual matches or compete in leagues online and offline. I’m sure in the coming months, Nintendo will reveal new modes for Battle League Football.

Furthermore, an online league will allow you to create or join a squad of fellow online players to compete and climb your way up the leaderboards.

Overall, Mario Strikers: Battle League Football looks to offer the silly fun that I would expect from this series. Are you excited to see this series return? Let us know across our social media channels.

Mario Strikers: Battle League Football will release for the Nintendo Switch on June 10th.
