Finally, just over a month away from arriving in cinemas, the first proper trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is here.

The trailer is as cheesy as you might expect, but it is a movie based upon the legendary survival horror series after all. While I am a little concerned over some of the quality of the CGI, namely the Cerberus dogs and what I think might be one of the final forms of the William Birkin mutation, overall, I kinda like it.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is set in September 1998, around the same time as the T-Virus outbreak. It is also based upon the first two original games in the series, though there is what appears to be a nod to Code Veronica. Fans might remember the in-game clip of the Ashford twins plucking apart an insect. Well, that lovely scene appears to be in the movie.

The trailer is quite naturally full of your favourite Resident Evil characters such as Chris and Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, Albert Wesker and more. We even see a glimpse of what looks like Hunk, and even the truck driver from the RE2 opening.

Speaking of RE2, we also see what looks to be William Birkin in the orphanage from the RE2 remake. So, it looks like that the movie will be inspired by the originals, as well as the remakes. There’s also Lisa Trevor, that famous first zombie from the original and an awesome looking Licker. Heck, I even saw the words “Itchy Tasty”. However, I’ll stop mentioning everything that I noticed in the trailer, otherwise, I will be here all day.

It will also be interesting to see if the Crimson Head zombies will feature from the 2002 remake, and perhaps even Hunters. Though I can’t help but ask, where’s Barry? Hopefully, the lovable ginger bearded fan-favourite will make an appearance.

I also ask questions about the choice of music in the trailer, and I can’t help but think a remixed iconic Resident Evil track might have served better. That being said, I’ll lower my expectations to the bare minimum. So, I’ll have a cheesy, fun zombie flick to enjoy.

However, there is also a second trailer doing the rounds that actually features scenes not seen in the main trailer. I’ll include that trailer below (thanks Residence of Evil).
