UK’s Channel 4 is rebooting legendary show, GamesMaster!  The news was announced on the Channel 4 website.

In the 90s, GamesMaster was easily one of my favourite shows.  We got to see video games that we perhaps couldn’t afford to own, players competing in tournaments for the prestigious Golden Joystick, the odd celebrity cameo and video game cheats before the internet was a thing.

In the reboot, according to the official blurb it will feature much of what made the original 90s series a success, but perhaps featuring a more competitive edge with the aid of celebrity appearances competing in tournaments.

The official blurb reads:

This year, five bold celebrities will embark on a gaming odyssey but only one can go on to become the GamesMaster champion and take home the Golden Joystick.

“They’ll undergo challenges, races and fights in virtual battles across all genres of gaming under the watchful eye of the all-knowing GamesMaster.

“Each week at least one celeb will be eliminated… Over the three episodes [sic], five will become one and the winner will be crowned. They’ll play each other at everything from iconic classics to brand new releases. We’ll also be serving tonnes of extra gaming-themed content to our audiences to keep them coming back for more.

The original show was hosted by Dominik Diamond, though I assume we’ll get a new host in the reboot.  Sir Patrick Moore also played the role of the Games Master, but sadly he is no longer with us.

So the questions are, who will host the reboot and who will play the role as the Games Master?

At this time the reboot is still searching for its brand partner, so the show is likely a long way off from launching.  However it’s exciting nonetheless that the legendary GamesMaster is returning.
