After rumours circulating for a good year or so, Netflix has officially confirmed the much speculated live-action Resident Evil series.  One would assume that the story of this series would have your usual protagonist leading the charge, however, it seems like the Wesker children will be the main focus of the story.

Those familiar with the lore of Resident Evil and the Wesker family, knows that it does not start and end with the infamous Albert Wesker.  In a nutshell, Oswell E. Spencer attempted to create a family race of perfect human beings.  Some of his experiments were a success, for example Albert and Alex Wesker, the latter of which is a playable Mastermind in Resident Evil: Resistance.  However, with 100’s of “Wesker Children”, many of which were a failure.

Confirmed on the official social media pages, Netflix not only revealed the live-action Resident Evil series, but they also detailed a brief synopsis of the eight-part series, with each episode lasting about an hour:

“When the Wesker kids move to New Raccoon City, the secrets they uncover might just be the end of everything. Resident Evil, a new live action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise, is coming to Netflix.”

The series will also be told over two timelines and rather than featuring the two more well-known Wesker family members, it will tell the tale of the two 14-year old sisters, Billie and Jade Wesker, daughters of Mr. Albert Wesker.

Details on both timelines have also been briefly teased, one that features the younger Wesker sisters after they move to Raccoon City, however, the second timeline will jump ten years into the future, where the T-Virus has left just 15 million humans on earth, but has created more than 6 billion monsters!

In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

“Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past – about her sister, her father and herself – continue to haunt her.

While we don’t know when the series will launch, seeing as its only just been officially revealed, it will no doubt be well into next year at least.  But we do know that Bronwen Hughes, will be directing and producing the first two episodes at least, Hughes has previously worked on AMC’s The Walking Dead, so she comes in with some pedigree.  Andrew Dabb (Supernatural) will also write and work as an executive producer on the series with Bronwen Hughes.  The series also promises to please fans with Easter Eggs and some “old friends” making appearances.
