Sony is discontinuing movie/TV rentals and purchases on the PlayStation Store.

The news was announced on the PlayStation Blog where it was revealed that the discontinuing of movie/TV rentals and purchases will end on the PlayStation Store from August 31st, 2021.

Those that have already purchased movies and TV series’ before August 31st will still have access to the content on PC, consoles, and mobile devices, so you won’t have to worry about losing what you’ve paid for.

The reason that Sony has made this decision is that as I’m sure you’ve already guessed is down to the fact that consumers prefer to access content via services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.

We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles. With this shift in customer behaviour, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store as of August 31, 2021.” said the post on the PlayStation Blog.

Between now and then, it might be worth keeping a lookout for some potentially great deals.
