The Last of Us 2 could be split across two more seasons for HBO series

The story of The Last of Us: Part II could be split across two or more seasons for the HBO adaptation.

Without giving too much away, as fantastic as The Last of Us’ debut season from HBO has been, some of us can’t help but feel a little cut short. Those that are familiar with the first game from Naughty Dog would have noticed that there was quite a lot of content cut from the TV series.

I’m not sure what that is, perhaps HBO or Naughty Dog didn’t anticipate the success that the show has been. So perhaps they played it safe with nine episodes, instead of, let’s say 12 episodes.

Don’t get me wrong, after watching that season finally, I’m left wanting more, just not in the way that I had hoped. Thankfully, it seems that Naughty Dog and HBO are aware of this and with season two being inspired by The Last of Us: Part II, it seems that the upcoming seasons might not be stretched so thin.

During an interview with G1, co-executive producers of the TV series, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin were asked if season two will cover all of Part II and Druckmann replied: “No. No Way. It’s more than one season.”

“Some of the stuff I’m most excited for [in Part II] are the changes we’ve discussed and seeing the story come to life again in this other version, ” explained Druckmann. “And I think it’s exciting because it leans into those feelings you had from the game, really heavily, in a new way.”

While I am disappointed that season one could have done with at least 12 episodes, instead of nine, at least the same mistake won’t be repeated for the next two seasons (hopefully).
