For years the Assassin’s Creed series has been accused of being bloated with a massive open world and a flurry of seemingly endless activities.

Personally, the issue for me is not the oversized world or bloated activities, but it’s the overall quality and consistency of the side activities, in comparison to the primary campaign. Back in the day, the Assassin’s Creed series was much more streamlined but still had plenty of activities on the side, they were less overwhelming, if you will.

Before the launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft has made it no secret that this once Valhalla expansion had morphed into its own standalone experience. What’s more, it will take the series back to its roots being more streamlined and inspired by the 2007 game that started it all.

However, it seems that Mirage will also take inspiration from the OG’s campaign length being a reported 20 to 30 hours long. As reported by French content creator Julien Chièze, the lead producer of Mirage stated that the game would take 20 hours with a “rushed” playthrough, but a complete run can be between 25 to 30 hours. If like me, that probably means it will take at least 40 hours with my over-excessive exploring.

I know it’s each to their own, but I quite like the idea of not having to spend silly hours playing Assassin’s Creed to see all the sites. Sometimes, I just want to sit back and play some of the classics, and it seems that Mirage will give us that taste of series nostalgia.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released on 12 October 2023 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
