When it comes to its quality of games, Bloober Team can be a bit hit-and-miss. Arguably the best of its bunch are the Layers of Fear, Observer and The Medium.

That being said, I’m yet to try the recent Layers of Fear remake which combines both the original games, with some new content. The studio also has the massive responsibility of developing the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake with its original game widely being considered as one of the greatest video games of all time.

However, as reported by Eurogamer (via Engadget), presumably after the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team will ditch psychological horror and will instead focus on “mass-market horror”. What that means remains to be seen. Will there be a stark difference between OG Dead Space and Dead Space 3? Only time will tell.

“We focused on the story, we focused on the mood, we focused on the quality of graphics and music, but we didn’t put a lot of attention on the gameplay mechanics,” said studio co-founder Piotr Babieno. “It wasn’t our target. But we decided that there was a ceiling that we couldn’t break if we did not deliver something fresh, something new.”

He continued: “This year is like closing the era of making psychological horror games. Right now we are going into Bloober Team 3.0, making mass-market horror.” It seems like Bloober horror is going to get commercialised.

“We decided that our next titles should be much more mass-market oriented,” added Babieno. “We’d like to talk with more people. We’d like to deliver our ideas, with our DNA, not by environment or storytelling, but by action. So all of our future titles will have a lot of gameplay mechanics. They will be much bigger.”

The Silent Hill 2 remake is expected to arrive late this year to early next for PC and as a timed exclusive on PlayStation 5.
