In an article from The Verge, it has been revealed that if players can’t fill up 128-player matches in Battlefield 2042, the remaining places will be taken up by bots.

On the PS4 and Xbox One, Battlefield 2042 will support up to 64 players in certain match types. However, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, certain matches will support up to 128 players.

I would imagine during launch; Battlefield 2042 shouldn’t have much of an issue filling up the 128-player roster. However, as the months pass the game might struggle to consistently achieve those kinds of numbers.

So, EA and DICE will fill up those remaining spots with AI bots. It’s not uncommon for online shooters to use bots to make up the numbers, but AI can be very inconsistent, and it can be obvious that it’s not a human controlling an avatar.

Hopefully, DICE will do a grand job with the AI, and should you encounter any bots, you might not be able to notice. Though while I do understand their purpose and value, it always feels a little cheaper knowing that you’ve eliminated a bot rather than a human player.
