Codemasters Have Acquired Exclusive 5-Year World Rally Championship Rights

Codemasters have acquired the rights to the World Rally Championship (WRC) license, which will no doubt be used in future DiRT Rally and DiRT series titles.  The license has been held since 2001 by the WRC series, currently developed by Bigben Interactive.  How this will truly effect the WRC series remains to be seen, but they do have some time on their hands, as the five-year deal with Codemasters won’t start until 2023, through to 2027.

The exclusive rights to use the WRC license will not only feature in Codemasters games, but it will also extend to be used in eSports tournaments too.  The deal will allow Codemasters to utilise all WRC race categories such as the FIA WRC 2, WRC 3 and the Junior WRC Championship on PC, consoles and mobile devices.

As a long-standing fan of the Colin McRae/DiRT series, this news excites me, but I know this news will be as equally disappointing for fans of the WRC series.  What side of the dirt track do you sit on?  Let us know across our social media channels.
