EA Sports FC will make the end of the FIFA series, at least for Electronic Arts and it seems not much will change, because it still looks like FIFA.

Despite losing the FIFA licence, exclusive deals with the Premier League, LaLiga and UEFA will ensure that athletes, clubs, stadiums and more will ensure authenticity for “many years to come.” You can check out the full list of officially licensed competitions here. Cybernetic footballing machine, Erling Haaland will also be the cover star of the standard edition.

What’s more, women’s football will also get a lot of well-earned attention including the Barclay’s Women’s Super League, as well as officially licensed leagues in Spain, Germany, the UEFA Champions League, the National Women’s Soccer League and more. Women’s football will also feature in the Ultimate Team mode.

A “gameplay” trailer was also released but mostly consisted of rendered cinematics, some goal celebrations and probably about a second-and-half of actual match gameplay. EA also spoke the usual PR malarky of the Hypermotion tech and the power of the Frostbite Engine. Let’s be honest, this is still very much a FIFA game, but not in name. Whether the series will evolve past the FIFA era, only time will tell.

Interestingly, however, EA has partnered with Opta to incorporate real-world footballer stats and signature abilities to ensure the best representation possible. Hopefully, that will translate as well as it sounds.

EA Sports FC will be released on 29 September 2023 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Unless you pre-order the Ultimate Edition, in which case it will be 22 September.
