Embracer Group is on a roll, as it just acquired The Lord of the Rings IP and much more.

In May, Embracer Group bought Square Enix’s western studios including the likes of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and more. The acquisition also included IPs such as Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, Deus Ex, Thief and more. However, Embracer’s portfolio has just expanded further.

The headliner of the latest acquisition is no doubt The Lord of the Rings IP via Middle-earth Enterprises. This deal means that Embracer Group now has an invested interest in the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum as well as Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power show.

Furthermore, owning The Lord of the Rings IP, now means that Embracer Group owns: “a vast intellectual property catalogue and worldwide rights to motion pictures, video games, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions relating to the iconic fantasy literary works The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Additionally, Embracer Group also owns Limited Run Games, Maneater and Killing Floor studio Tripwire Interactive, as well as Tuxedo Labs, Bitwave Games and Japanese developer, Tatsujin.

If that wasn’t enough, they also own video game accessory company Gioteck and Singtrix, the latter of which specialise in “vocal processing effect technology for karaoke, gaming, and equipment“.

I’m sure the latest batch of acquisitions won’t be the last from Embracer Group. However, as long as they do The Lord of the Rings, Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain and Deus Ex franchises the justice they deserve, then I’m happy.
