Here’s our first look at The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Most of the juicy details were revealed in a livestream from developers CD Projekt Red and below I’ll detail all the highlights from the show.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen improvements and new features include:

PC

  • DLSS 3, FSR 2.1 and Ultra Plus graphics options

PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X

  • Ray-tracing
  • Screen Space Reflections
  • Improved foliage
  • Improved textures, including 3D cobble paths and more
  • More visual improvements detailed at a later date
  • An alternative camera moves closer to Geralt. A previous camera perspective is still an option
  • Quick Sign Casting option during combat. So, no need to pause the screen
  • Extended map filtering options
  • Dynamic mini-map which fades in and out when needed. Previous mini-map options are also available
  • Geralt can now walk and sprint by pushing the analogue stick. You can still use a button to sprint if you wish
  • Photo mode
  • Fan favourite community mods
  • Quest fixes include: “From Ofier’s Distant Shores, Scavenger Hunt: Wolf School Gear and more.”
  • Netflix DLC includes alternative outfits for Dandelion and Nilfgaardian soldiers. Geralt’s outfit and weapons are acquired by completing a special quest. Even Jaskier gets a new outfit too.
  • New accessibility options such as being able to adjust the subtitle text. This is particularly handy, as the original text was quite small. New audio languages will also be added to the game.
  • As with Cyberpunk 2077, players can transfer saves to any platform. So, you can continue where you left off or begin anew.
  • PlayStation 5 players can take advantage of the DualSense controller features.
  • PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch players will benefit from “numerous additions and improvements”.
  • CD Projekt Red has also promised additional details in the coming weeks and some surprises will be saved for launch, which will not be included in the patch notes.

As a reminder, the next-gen update is free to all those that own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. As a heads up, The Witcher 3 is currently heavily discounted on most platforms, so I’d recommend buying the game now if you want the next-gen version nice and cheap.

If you missed it, all new-gen details were revealed in a 30-minute livestream event from CD Projekt Red. If you haven’t done so already, it’s certainly worth checking out here. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update releases next month for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on December 14th.
