Already the updates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are taking the piss, as even before the latest update and at least on PS4, the combined size is a whopping 190GB!  Granted the game is getting some great free support and I welcome that, but as each and every update releases, it’s getting a little out of hand.  I own a PS4 Pro, I have a 1TB hard drive inside the console and an additional 2TB external hard drive, and as much as I like Modern Warfare, it’s getting to the point that I am strongly considering deleting it.

With the new season 4 update, you’re looking at 32GB on PS4 and Xbox One, and PC at 44GB to download.  However, if that wasn’t bad enough, some Xbox One owners are reporting that their update is downloading at a size of 84GB, which has resulted in “84GB” trending on Twitter.  Ironically enough, this latest update also has the purpose of reducing the file size.

As you can guess, the download size on Xbox One shouldn’t be at 84GB, and Activision has announced that they are investigating the issue.  Infinity Ward community manager Aston Williams has also informed those on social media that the developers are looking at ways to reduce overall disc space by compressing assets, presumably with future updates.

It’s a shame Infinity Ward hadn’t already found a way to compress assets, because at this point, we’re looking to expect way over 200GB at this rate with more future updates, whether they’re compressed or not.  However, once the update has installed, it will only take up an additional 4GB of space, but downloading 40GB or even 84GB to begin with can take hours for some, and with each and every update, it’s all mounting up.

Ashton Williams has also informed players that you can uninstall content packs from the games main menu, but then of course you wouldn’t be getting the full experience and this option is only currently possible on console, and not PC.
