Life is Strange

Life Is Strange, the five part episodic game was announced back in August and created a buzz from the get go. With a lovely art style and a very “independent cinema” feel to it, many were excited to see what the game would be like, especially after the strong debut from Dontnod Entertainment’s Remember Me. Moving away from the cyberpunk aesthetics of Remember Me, Life Is Strange sets itself in the Pacific Northwest and has a dreamy nostalgic vibe, which in theory will make it appeal to a wider audience of people.

It sounds like it will play similar to games such as The Walking Dead, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, but with a twist. You play as photography student Maxine Caulfield who finds out she has the power to rewind time, but with this power comes the problem with time travel, the butterfly effect. As you try to amend wrongs, you may end up creating a dozen more. Hopefully this means there will be multiple ways to progress through the game creating branching story paths. Even if that isn’t the case though, as long as it can tell its interactive narrative well, it should still be worth playing, especially with the first episode only costing £3.99 when it launches on the 30th January 2015.
