CI Games boss, Marek Tyminski told Eurogamer that the sequel to their third-person action RPG, Lords of the Fallen, will launch sometime in 2017. Having taken inspiration from other RPGs, especially the Souls series, the game garnered positive critical and financial success. Around 900,000 copies of the original game have sold so far, and the company expects the figure to reach 1m soon.

In commenting on dropping the original co-developers, Deck 13, Tyminski said: “We are starting the project, we start from the concept, but we definitely will be working with a lot of partners. We have very clear thinking on how we want to make Lords of the Fallen 2 and we have a very good idea.

He went on to reassure that: “We’re taking all of the lessons from Lords of the Fallen 1 to make, first of all, a much better game, and second, to make it more efficient from a production perspective. We plan to release the game in 2017 [….] we will only be announcing the release date of each particular game when we will be close enough and we will be sure the game will be on time.

In our review of the original Lords of the Fallen, we said: “If you’re a fan of Dark Souls, action RPGs, or if you like games that offer a challenge then this could be the game for you, as long as you can accept it won’t be an easy ride.
