At The Game Awards last night, Hideo Kojima was in attendance to announce Metal Gear Online, which will come with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.  It’s the first time we’ve seen a separate online mode bundled with the game in the series since Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots.  In Metal Gear Online, you will be able to join and go against other players in an attempt “to conquer the online battlefield.

Metal Gear Online will be developed by Kojima Productions at their Los Angeles studio, whereas of course The Phantom Pain itself is being developed by the main studio over in Japan.  Judging by the gameplay footage, team work is absolute key and I am almost as excited to play this online version as I am for the main game itself, I just hope that it catches on more than the underappreciated mode that came with MGSIV: Guns of the Patriots.

To mark the announcement, Konami has released a four minute gameplay trailer and screenshots to feast your eyes upon.  Further details for Metal Gear Online are expected to be released “soon.
