It’s probably fair to say that the release of Halo Infinite probably didn’t go quite as intended. Sure it was a decent game, but probably never reached the high standard set by earlier entries.

However, it seems that developers 343 Industries might be trying something new for the series in the form of its game engine. According to one of the hosts on the Hoeg Law’s Bitcast, it is claimed that the next story campaign for Halo will be developed using an Unreal engine, presumably Unreal Engine 5.

“Do I have any info on the Halo campaign? The short answer is nothing specific. What I can say, what I know anyway, is that yes, they do have a team working on the next Halo campaign. It is part of the restructuring that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal,” it was claimed on the YouTube show.

Of course, we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. That being said, perhaps the empowerment of the Unreal Engine 5 could give the Halo series the boost it needs. Only time will tell.

As for now, the Halo Infinite story campaign is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. It is also available via Xbox Game Pass. Its multiplayer is free to play.
