This week was the 10th anniversary of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance from PlatinumGames and the celebrations were a disappointment.

Fans were hoping that we might get a remaster of MGS: Revengeance or perhaps even a sequel. Sadly, however, all we got were a series of artwork. Don’t get me wrong, the artwork is fantastic, but it’s a tad underwhelming. Perhaps we set our expectations too high.

In a blog post, MGS: Revengeance director, Kenji Saito thanked the fans for 10 years of support. Unfortunately, there was no mention of a remaster or a sequel.

Ten years after the game’s release, my most recent memory of anything to do with the game is seeing Armstrong and Sam appear in so many memes globally,” said Saito. “It feels unreal that MGR: R is still a topic of conversation a whole decade later.” The director then notes how player counts have increased over the years, calling it “truly moving stuff”.

We were then treated to the stunning new artwork from the PlatinumGames team, including Akiteru Naka, Jun Seung Jin, Kana Yamamoto, Kenichirou Yoshimura, Ryoko Konami, Tomoko Nishii and Yuya Inoue.

Will we ever get a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance sequel or even a remaster? I wouldn’t hold my breath. However, I certainly hope that both happen one day.
