Remedy Entertainment has announced that they are remaking the original Max Payne game, as well as its sequel, Max Pay 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

The news of Remedy remaking the original two Max Payne games was revealed with a press release on the official website. Remedy developed the first two games. However, Rockstar Games acquired the rights to the franchise with Max Payne 2.

2012s Max Payne 3 was published and developed by Rockstar Studios. Remedy will be working in partnership with Rockstar Games for the two sequels. Furthermore, both the remakes will be shipped as one product, rather than two separate games. The remakes will also be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

At this time, the remakes are in the “concept development stage”, so it’s likely that the release will be two or three years away. Additionally, the budget of the remake is said to be of “typical Remedy AAA production”.

Sam Houser, the founder of Rockstar Games, said: “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.

Remedy CEO Tero Virtala, Remedy CEO added: “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.

The original Max Payne was released in 2001, with its sequel arriving two years later in 2003. However, Max Payne 3 wouldn’t arrive for nearly a decade later in 2012. So, it looks like we’ll be waiting more than 10 years between Max Payne 3 and the two remakes.
