Courtesy of the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, it’s been revealed that the Resident Evil 4 remake is ditching QTEs and adding side-quests.

The original Resident Evil 4 had its fair share of QTEs. Then QTEs were even more of a focus in RE5 and RE6. Personally, I hate QTEs. There you are enjoying a cut scene and bam! It’s an unexpected cut scene and you’re dead! It was a sign of the times from the mid-2000s to the early 2010s. Thankfully, QTEs nowadays are few and far between.

What’s more, side-quests will now appear in the remake and will be indicated as blue flyers on the map. Apparently, side-quests include solving puzzles, delivering the corpses of three snakes, and sadly, putting an infected dog out of its misery.

Knives will also have more of an emphasis in the remake. Leon’s knife in the original was unbreakable. However, much like the Resident Evil 2 remake, knives will deteriorate with limited durability and will eventually break. What’s more, when the Ganados inevitably kidnap Ashley Graham, you can now stab them in the neck to free her.

Previously, you had to shoot them or perhaps use a Flash Grenade. However, when firing a weapon you always ran a risk of killing Ashley. So at least now Leon is a little more efficient in that department. You can check out Leon’s new knife skills just after 50 seconds into the trailer above.

Resident Evil 4 releases for PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X|S on 24th March 2023.
