So the rumours of snowy mountains, villages, a return to the first-person perspective and Ethan Winters, as well as the Werewolves-esque monsters and more were true!  Almost as soon as the trailer begins, it gave me Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 vibes, which I very much liked.

Resident Evil 8 or as its officially know “Resident Evil: Village” is still very much considered to be the 8th main entry in the series, despite the sudden name change, though the number 8 Roman Numeral is hidden within the word “village”.  Resident Evil: Village is set within a remote village, located at the brink of a snowy mountain, home of cults, monsters and sinister secrets from top to bottom.

Ethan Winters, the protagonist of Resident Evil 7 is trying to lead a normal life with his wife Mia, following the traumatic events of the previous game with RE8 taking place a few years later.  However, when none other than Chris Redfield gatecrashes Ethan’s home, his life is turned upside down.  Speaking of Chris, who always seems to have a redesign with every release, still looks like Chris from RE7, with perhaps a hint of the version from CGI movie, Resident Evil: Damnation.

The developers have also revealed that the game will feature no loading times, which is mighty impressive and if more recent rumours are to be believed, the game will also feature three playable protagonists.  Apparently according to renowned leaker of info Dusk Golem, Ethan will be playable for about 50%-60% of a game, 30%-40% is a female character, likely the seemingly friendly woman that we see in the trailer, while 10% will be played by another and I would guess that might be Chris Redfield.

Also, as previous rumours suggested, Ethan will be haunted throughout the game, adding a constant sense of fear and dread.  During the trailer reveal, we also got a glimpse of the Umbrella logo, which makes sense as the virus that the Nemesis infects zombies in the RE3 remake with, will play a role in RE8, with the two games being connected.

Resident Evil: Village will of course utilise the technology of the RE Engine, which also powered the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes, Resident Evil 7 and Devil May Cry 5.  While we have no release date as of yet, we do know that Resident Evil: Village will release in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
