Right, I’ll address the elephant in the room; Resident Evil Revelations 2 will feature microtransactions.  This is a very touchy subject within the gaming community, some fearing that you have to pay to access content that would normally be included in the initial purchase, basically publishers squeezing every penny they can from your game.  Thankfully the microtransaction will not deny you from any content in the game, and it will be used during its Raid mode.  Basically in a nutshell, if you die in Raid mode, you will have to pay to continue, perhaps not so much different to playing a game at the arcade(apart from the fact that you will own Resident Evil Revelations 2 of course).

I know some may frown upon this and I personally don’t like microtransactions, but my way around that is to avoid paying for them altogether.  So getting back to how they work, you will be able to buy crystals to continue when you die in Raid. If you played the previous Raid mode or Mercenaries with other Resident Evil instalments, when you die, your dead, end of the game.  Not I’m trying to defend the microtransactions, but it’s not like it’s something that has been taken away from us in that respect.

However, you will be able to earn crystals at no cost via daily challenges or you can just refuse to use them altogether, which is something that I will do personally.  The reason I say this, is because I’m use to these modes having one life and that’s it and it’s the way I like it.  It’s about surviving as long as you can, while trying to hit that high score.  So I will not be using the crystals anyway, as I don’t want that blanket protecting me, which will take away the element of fear from dying in the game.

As confirmed in our previous article, the Raid mode will be an offline mode until the final episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 is released, but it will be playable offline via split-screen co-op and then online co-op will be available upon the release of the final episode (and with the retail release).  Raid mode will also feature a whooping 200 stages when fully released.

Episode one of Resident Evil Revelations 2 will release on February 24th for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  The retail disc version will then release March 17th in North America and the 20th for Europe.
