At the Resident Evil Showcase it was revealed that Resident Evil Village will be getting its own standalone multiplayer game.  When the Showcase was announced last week and a beta was revealed, well, this is what the beta is for.

The multiplayer game in question is called RE: Verse and it will be available for free to all those that own RE Village, similar to that of RE: Resistance with the Resident Evil 3 remake.

RE: Verse is said to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise and as such will feature playable characters and enemies from the series.

Judging from the snippets of gameplay it looks to be Team Deathmatch/Free-for-All style gameplay perhaps with some boss fights thrown in.  It also seems that players might be able to take control of iconic enemies such as the Nemesis.

Visually it is in a cel-shade style and the map shown in the gameplay video is the RPD from the Resident Evil 2 remake.  Though I’m sure we’ll have more maps come launch.

RE: Verse will also be for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, but is playable on new-gen consoles via backwards compatibility.

At the moment we don’t know a great deal about RE: Verse, though we’ll likely learn more when the beta launches later this month.

Do you like the look of RE: Verse?  I’m not sure if I’m too keen, though I will give it the benefit of the doubt.  I was really hoping that it would be the return of The Mercenaries or an unlikely remaster of Outbreak.

Oh and The Division 2 is getting a crossover event starting February 2nd and ending on February 15th, in which players will be able to earn Resi inspired skins, outfits and more.

If you missed the showcase, you can watch it below.

Resident Evil Village will release for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on May 7th.  Those who pick-up the last-gen version will also get a free new-gen upgrade.
