SEGA Announce Live-Action Yakuza Movie and New Game to be Revealed This Weekend

SEGA has announced that they will be bringing us a live-action adaptation of a Yakuza movie, in collaboration with 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content.  The movie which is in its very early stages of production, has yet to hire writers for the script.  However, we do know that it will be produced by Erik Barmack, Roberto Grande (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) and Joshua Long (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark [again] and TV series 1983).

To be honest, I know next to nothing about the producers that are attached to this Yakuza project, other then they seem to like the Stories to Tell in the Dark movie.  While 1212 Entertainment and Wild Sheep Content are on the lookout for a writer and I assume a director, I believe they should look no further then director of John Wick, Chad Stahelski, and writer of the same movie, Derek Kolstad.  Hopefully this movie adaptation will do the fantastic videogame series justice.

In related Yakuza news, SEGA are also planning to announce a new game in the videogame series at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend.  While we’re still waiting for Yakuza: Like a Dragon to release over here in the west during November, I would be surprised if it would be a Yakuza 8.  So I’m hoping that the much requested spin-off, Yakuza: Ishin (set in the 1800’s) could finally get localised in the west or perhaps Yakuza: Kenzan (set in the 1600’s) might get a PS4 release over here too.  Who knows, we may even get a sequel to the spin-off Judgment or even a Dead Souls port?

Thankfully, we won’t have to look to find out, because the new Yakuza game will be revealed on Sunday, September 27th at 12pm BST/7am ET/ 4am PT.  Are you excited by the incoming news this weekend and of course the movie announcement?  Share your thoughts across our social media channels.
