Survival horror legend, Shinji Mikami announced Hi-Fi RUSH for Tango Gameworks and it’s out right now.

However, considering this is from the mind of Resident Evil, The Evil Within and even Ghostwire: Tokyo, this is a very different game than we would expect from the developer.

Hi-Fi RUSH is a high-octane, rhythm-based action game that looks to be inspired by the likes of Jet Set Radio, Sunset Overdrive and perhaps Metal Hellsinger.

In Hi-Fi RUSH, players will take control of Chai, a “free-spirited slacker with rockstar ambitions.” What’s more, the game is officially described as being:

A rhythm action game set in a colourful world where everything is driven by the beat of the music – from the trees swaying in the environment to every hit landed during combat.

Combat sequences perfectly align with the rhythm of the music, allowing for gameplay that is not only exhilarating but also extremely satisfying. A player’s moves aren’t dictated by the music like in a traditional rhythm game — players have the freedom of a full-action game. However, inputting actions with the beat amplifies the player’s attacks along with the music.

Hi-Fi RUSH will also feature licensed tracks from rock bands such as Nine Inch Nails and The Black Keys. What are your thoughts on this unexpected title from Tango Gameworks? Let us know across our social media channels.

Hi-Fi-RUSH is out now for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It is also available via Xbox Game Pass.
