Finally, years after it was announced, the release of Skull and Bones is on the horizon.

Apparently, Skull and Bones started life as an expansion to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, before morphing into its own game. Judging by the gameplay trailer, the AC4 DNA is clear to see with assets galore. Still, the game looks like it could be fun.

Skull and Bones is an online multiplayer game with survival elements. It will also feature cross-play as well as cross-progression.

In Skull and Bones: “players can expand their empire by joining forces with up to two other friends or players they encounter out at sea. For an additional challenge, they can enable PVP and test their iron against aspiring kingpins, powerful organisations, local factions, or even rival pirates.

Furthermore, players will take on: “contracts, gathering resources, navigating important trade routes and attacking wealthy merchant ships, each decision will influence their journey, with varying levels of risk and reward.  As they grow their Infamy, players will be able to fully craft and customise their naval fleet and unlock a variety of new items throughout the game.

Skull and Bones is a live-service game for which Ubisoft claims to build: “on an ambitious, multi-year post-launch plan, the game will be regularly updated with new content, activities, stories, and challenges that will be free for all players.” That’s of course, assuming the game proves to be a long-term success.

Skull and Bones will release on November 8th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
