It’s fair to say that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake may be well into developmental hell.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced in 2021 during a PlayStation Showcase event, the remake of the beloved 2003 classic from BioWare received a lot of hype but that excitement has dwindled over time.

It was intended that the remake would be developed by Aspyr, but those duties were reportedly handed over to Saber Interactive in 2022. The Knights of the Old Republic remake never had a set release date but it would be safe to assume that its launch may be a year(ish) from now. However, that is seemingly not the case.

As reported by VGC, during an Embracer Group conference call, the parent company of Aspyr and Saber Interactive, CEO Lars Wingford referred to the remake as a “licensed game” without actually name-dropping the title.

When asked whether this “licensed title” believed to be the KOTOR remake would be released in the next 12 months, Wingford replied: “No, I think that kind of game needs some deep love and respect, so without giving full colour, I think it’s some time left until that is released.”

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of my all-time favourite video games and I just want it to be released in the best state possible, whomever may be developing the remake at that time.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic will be released on PC and PlayStation 5, probably.
