The next title in development from Supermassive Games may not be the studio’s typical teen horror according to recent reports.

Supermassive Games are known for Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures and more recently, The Quarry. However, the next game to be developed by the studio might offer something a little different.

In an interview with VGC, Supermassive’s studio director, Will Byles teased what the future may hold for the studio. It’s worth keeping in mind that while the teen horror aspect may be dropped, it will still be “very much classic horror.”

Here’s what was said by Will Byles during the interview with VGC:

We’ve started working on [the next game]. I can’t really tell you very much at all about it, but we have started. Again, it’s the same sort of horror genre, we’re sticking to that.

It’s equivalent in size to The Quarry… and that’s about as much as I can say without giving too much away. Potentially we might be a little bit like… I don’t know how far we can stretch the teen horror thing out further because especially when we try to stir it up, the number of surprises you can add to that becomes limited.

Byles went on to explain that while horror will most certainly still be the focus, it might be a little different to what we might expect. Furthermore, Byles said that the secret game in question should release in 2025 or 2056.

The Dark Pictures explores hundreds of variants of the horror genre. What we’re looking at now, and I can’t tell you exactly what it is, is a bit of a diversion away from that sort of standard, but it’s still very much classic horror. No, it certainly won’t be the seven years it took between Until Dawn [and The Quarry], it will be 2025, or maybe 2026.

For the immediate future, the final chapter of The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Devil in Me releases this year on November 18th. Are you excited to learn more about this new project? Let us know across our social media channels.
