Without question, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is one of the worst-reviewed video games of all time.

Not only did it release in a poor buggy state and with an uninspired gameplay loop, but its visuals represented something of a bygone era, and not in a good way. On Metacritic, Gollum’s outing in the video game media only scored 34 from critics and an even worse 1.1 from users.

Now, as reported by Push Square, things have gotten so bad that German-based developers Daedalic Entertainment will no longer be developing games, but will instead focus on publishing. No matter what you may think of this game, the true tragedy is the 25 employees set to be laid off. While offers will be re-issued elsewhere within the company.

“We value every single member of our team very much, and it is important to us that the transition goes as smoothly as possible,” said the developer in a statement. “Therefore, we will support our former employees in finding new opportunities within our network.

Daedalic Entertainment was set to develop another The Lord of the Rings game, but obviously, that will no longer come to fruition.

As of now, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is out for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. However, even with a morbid curiosity, you still want to avoid this game.
