Did I wake up this morning thinking “I wish someone would make a game about sledding in Alaska with a pack of dogs”? No, but that’s the beauty of the indie gaming world, free from constraints of AAA publishers, indie developers can let their imaginations run free (I guess like a pack of Alaskan dogs) and before you know it, you’ve found a game that you never knew you wanted, until now.

Developed by Timberline Studio, The Red Lantern is a “resource management narrative game where you can your team of five sled dogs must survive the wilderness and find your way home.”  Now, I’m not normally into survival games, but I’m certainly willing to give this concept a go.  Also fans of Horizon Zero Dawn will also be pleased to know that you play as The Musher, who is played by none other than the voice of Aloy, Ashly Burch, who also starred in Life is Strange.

The Red Lantern will also feature “roguelite” elements and you will face dangers such as bears and other creatures of the Alaskan wildlife, not to mention facing the harsh weather conditions.  You can adopt your favourite pups as you embark on an adventure to find your way home.  Oh, your pups can be killed, so if anyone tries to harm them, I will defend them with my life!

The Red Lantern will release for PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later this year and you can watch its reveal trailer below.
