THQ Squashes Apparent TimeSplitters 2 Tease

This week THQ Nordic has squashed what seemed to be a blatant TimeSplitters 2 tease.

The tease comes from an in-game reward item from a THQ Nordic real-time strategy SpellForce 3: Fallen God.

In the gameplay video seen below you can see the in-game reward pop-up in question which features the box art of TimeSplitters 2 as its thumbnail.

The description for the reward is in French but it translates to “iconic shooter, which has stood the test of time to join the era of modern games.”

Obviously this apparent tease sent fans into a frenzy in the hope that an announcement is on the way.

 

However that doesn’t seem to be the case as a THQ spokesperson told VGC “The intention behind those easter eggs was pure fun. When Koch Media and Deep Silver are ready to talk about TimeSplitters, they will make sure to get heard.”

Personally I don’t fully accept the word of the THQ spokesperson because even though they’ve shot down the tease, it would seem like too much effort to program this item in-game for it to be just a bit of fun.

I believe it was implemented for fun, but it’s also there for a reason and when you consider that THQ Nordic has not only acquired the rights to the TimeSplitters franchise and the fact that they’ve hired Steve Ellis the co-creator of the Timesplitters series and developer of 007 GoldenEye, and Perfect Dark, it all adds up.
