Publisher PQube, and developers Duel Effect and Abstract Digital Works has announced Tormented Souls, an indie title that pays homage to the classic survival horror games of yesteryear such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark.  It does seem to be a common trend nowadays to “revive” classic survival horror, some of which, are not all that great revivals.  However, judging from this brief announcement trailer, Tormented Souls has at least got me intrigued, as it looks decent based upon my first impression.

Tormented Souls will be played from an old-school survival horror, fixed camera “dynamic” perspective, which always adds tension, as it hides what horrors could be lurking around the corner.  The gameplay is also said to be improved upon from the classic survival horror games, so I would expect smooth, but tank-like controls.

The story of Tormented Souls involves you the player taking control of Caroline Walker, as she investigates the disappearance of twin girls at Winterlake.  However, Caroline investigation results in her awaking in a bathtub in an abandoned mansion, turned hospital.  Of course with this being a classic survival horror experience, expect to solve puzzles if you want to escape the mansion alive, as well as surviving sinister demons.  It is said that nothing is what it seems in Winterlake and the mirrors within the mansion are believed to be gateways to another dimension.  In this mansion of horrors, Caroline is most certainly “Not Alone in the Dark”.
