Update 12/12/14: Finally Ubisoft has updated their live blog indicating when those that not only purchased Assassin’s Creed: Unity, but also the season pass too, will be able to claim their free game.  On the live blog they updated saying: “From next week, you will be able to connect to a dedicated website to log in and select the free game of your choice.”  You can see the games to choose from below in the initial story of this article.

Original Story 26/11/14: In a very surprising move by Ubisoft, they are offering some very generous compensation for those that bought Assassin’s Creed: Unity and its season pass.  As I’m sure you know, AC: Unity has been plagued with bugs and glitches since its launch earlier in the month.  I myself have suffered a corrupt save file, forcing me to restart my campaign from scratch and as a result has delayed my review.  Also today the third patch was released that fixed over 300 issues, but when I fired up AC: Unity today, I discovered that I had now lost my AC: Initiates progression of Level 28, which has now been reset to my annoyance.

Well now Ubisoft has made a big move to apologising to fans by offering free DLC and free games that even includes Far Cry 4 and The Crew! Let’s start with the free DLC. The season pass will be discountinued and according to the Ubisoft Blog, season pass holders will still have access to the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China standalone game, which I hope that means we’ll still get that as we paid for the season pass.

Anyone that has picked up Assassin’s Creed: Unity for PC, PS4 or Xbox One will be given the Dead Kings DLC free of charge.  As no release date has been given yet for Dead Kings, there’s no date for when the DLC will be dished out for free.  But going by what’s said on the Ubisoft blog, we can expect to be given this DLC when it is officially released.

Now let’s get on to the crème de la crème.  Obviously the Dead Kings DLC being given away is no good for those that have purchased the AC: Unity season pass and this is where the free games come into play.  Ubisoft say that they “are currently setting up the system to process this offer. We will provide an update on how to claim your free game soon.” Hopefully we will have some news very soon on when we will receive our free games.  But what games are being given away I hear you ask?  Well checkout the list of choices below:

  • The Crew
  • Far Cry 4
  • Watch Dogs
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
  • Rayman Legends
  • Just Dance 2015

I’m sure that while the launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity has been very frustrating for many that have purchased the game, this move by Ubisoft is an impressive way to say sorry and I personally cannot wait to claim my free Far Cry 4 game (especially as I was planning on picking up this game).

If you want to see the official statement from Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat announcing this news, you can find it below.

An Update on Assassin’s Creed Unity from Yannis Mallat

The launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity was a highly-anticipated moment for me and for our development teams around the world who dedicated a tremendous amount of energy, passion and skill to the game’s creation. For us, it was the culmination of years of work on new technologies, the development of multiple innovations – including an all-new game engine – and an evolution of the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s core pillars. More importantly, we know that it was a highly-anticipated moment for many of you as well, as you looked forward to taking part in the first truly next generation Assassin’s Creed game.

Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.

We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus. You can find the release notes on that patch here: Patch 3 Notes

To show our appreciation for your continued support; we’re making the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Unity Dead Kings DLC free for everyone. For Season Pass holders, we will also offer the choice of one additional game from a selection of Ubisoft titles for free. More details on the offer for Season Pass holders can be found here: AC Unity FAQ

In addition to the latest patch and this offer, we are committed to delivering further fixes for other issues you’ve raised. In the meantime, please keep your feedback coming – it has been both humbling and incredibly helpful as we continue working hard to improve the overall quality of the game. We are hopeful that with these forthcoming updates, everyone will be able to truly enjoy their Assassin’s Creed Unity experience.

We will continue striving to make Assassin’s Creed one of the most ambitious and innovative franchises on the market, and we thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

Sincerely, Yannis Mallat – CEO, Ubisoft Montreal & Toronto
