During a recent interview, it has been revealed that the God of War Norse chapter will not be a trilogy due to development length.
Discounting the three prequels’ spin-offs, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta and Ascension, the mainline God of War series has been developed in a trilogy. God of War, God of War 2, and God of War 3.

So, when the Norse chapter of the God of War began in 2018, it was perhaps safe to assume that this might also spark a new trilogy. However, following the announcement of God of War: Ragnarok at the recent PlayStation showcase, it has been revealed that this will be a two-part chapter.
During an interview conducted by YouTuber Kaptain Kuba, creative director Cory Barlog explained why this will be a two-part chapter.
“I think one of the most important reasons is the first game took five years,” said Barlog. “The second game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take but I’m just going to throw out that it’s going to take a close to a similar time. Then if you think a third one in that same [timeframe], we’re talking a span of close to fifteen years of a single story, and I feel like that’s just too stretched out.”
To be fair, I totally get Barlog’s reasoning. After all, 15 years to tell a story over three video games is a long time and would be both mentally and physically taxing. Plus, I am a firm believer in quality over quantity.
