The State of Play dedicated to Gran Turismo 7 aired last night and true to the promise, we got an in-depth deep dive into the highly anticipated racer.

There’s simply too much information to write about, otherwise, this will be an extremely lengthy article. But to gloss over some of the highlights, we learned about the single player campaigns, online modes, car, and race customisation, and much more. The producer of the GT series, Kazunori Yamauchi gave us all the juicy details.

In the main career mode, there is a new feature called Gran Turismo Café. Here players will be given a car collection menu, essentially a wishlist. You complete each GT Café menu by winning races and events. You will then level up and earn rewards. We’ll also learn about cars on the menu from those that have designed them in real life.

There were also two other new modes that have an emphasis on music while you drive. Music Rally which allows you to listen to music while you drive and Music Replay, which synchronises replays to the music. It seems like you can listen to your own music from your PS4/PS5 hard drive, which would be great if so.

The features of the DualSense controllers were also a highlight. Yamauchi spoke of how you could feel the pull and power of each car. 3D Audio will also play a huge role in having an immersive GT7 experience. However, we can only take his word on that, at least until we get to play the game ourselves.

Interestingly, the ray-tracing replays will not only look gorgeous, but they’ll also have a dynamic aspect to them too. For example, each time you watch a single replay, the camera angles will change with each viewing. Furthermore, the music will also synchronise with what you’re seeing on the screen.

Of course, Scapes mode was also spoken about. If you don’t know what Scapes is, it’s basically a very fancy and more advanced photo mode. So, if you’re a fan of photo modes and cars, then you’ll love Scapes in GT7.

To close out the State of Play, we were also treated to some stunning new gameplay of Gran Turismo. Thankfully, no delay was announced, which is always in the back of my mind when it comes to the GT series.
